Your Mobile Application's User Experience (UX) Copy makes a big difference in the way users interact and engage with it. It includes Call-to-Action Buttons, Error Messages, Definitions, Labels, Instructions, and Chatbots that guide the users through the App.

When it comes to your Mobile Application, every word counts. Your UX copy can help you connect with your users, increase your recall value, improve user engagement, keep your users coming back and even encourage in-app purchases.

We’ve listed a few points for you to keep in mind to create or enhance your Mobile App UX Copy:

  • Converse: Write what you would say to your user if you had to guide them. Sound like a human rather than a robot. It will allow your users to connect and relate with you and respond better. So, make sure you add a human touch to everything you write.

  • Get to the Point: Your Mobile App users are looking for guidance, not puzzles, so eliminate the guesswork and get to the point. Be clear and concise to get the message across. Write shorter sentences, don't get too technical, and use simpler synonyms. Leave no room for misinterpretation.

  • Be Empathetic: Put yourself in the users' shoes. Understand their perspective and problems, and let them know you do. Know that your user is looking for cues on how to use your App, so try to help. Use easier words so your users can easily navigate through the App. If you're informing users of a failed attempt, prompt them to try again without pinpointing their misstep.

  • Stay Consistent: Every brand has a distinct personality, voice and tone, so make sure your UX copy reflects yours aptly. Staying consistent in your word choices, tonality, and approach will allow your users to connect with you, increase your recall value and also promote brand loyalty amongst your users. You have to stay consistent right from the sign-up screen to the sign-out.

  • Extend Support: Include the customer care number, support email or link to the help page in error messages or steps where you think the user might need it. It will allow your user to access the required information in case they feel stuck or are in need of assistance.

  • Give Directions: You can enhance your users' experience by directing them to the right steps. You can also direct users towards exploring more options. It will increase the time the user will spend on the App and increase the chances of in-app purchases.

  • Inform: Be informative; tell the users why something isn't working out or what could be the possible reasons behind a failed action they were trying to perform. Give out information that will help them figure out how to fix the error. Also, disclose critical information, like why you're collecting their data. Allow your users to make well-informed decisions and earn their trust.

  • Engage: Include UX Copy in your App that the users can engage with. Give them options to choose from, and add clear CTA buttons, search bars and filters. You can't bore people into using your Mobile App or buying from it, so keep it interesting.

  • Sell but Be Subtle: You can use your UX Copy to reinforce your sales funnel and encourage in-app purchases. But be subtle about it and avoid sounding pushy. Forcing users to buy something will be of more harm than help.

  • Suggest: Befriend your users, get to know them, predict their behavior by their interactions, suggest what to do next or suggest alternative ways to solve their problems. You can do this through your UX Copy. Time your copy in accordance with the actions and steps.

UX Copywriting isn’t just about putting a few words together. It's about conveying your message to the users in the most understandable and effective way. You don’t need an extensive vocabulary, but you do need the right words. Simple and meaningful words.
