There are myriad Apps on your Mobile Phones, and you often trust most of these Apps with your personal information. There's an App for everything- chatting with your friends, shopping, entertainment, gaming and even for carrying out financial transactions. Each of these Apps has leverage over you, be it your confidential information, medical records, credit card information etc. And all of this information, if left unprotected and misused, can lead to dire consequences.

App innovators realize the threats and potential risks of collecting and storing their users' information and have evolved measures to ensure and enhance security. As the need for security grows, so have the efforts to tackle it. And one of the most reliable measures is incorporating Biometric technologies into App development.

So, what are Biometric Technologies?

Biometric Technologies uses unique physical or behavioural traits for identifying and authenticating individuals. For instance, fingerprints, facial features, or voice patterns. It allows enhanced security and access control in applications, especially those with your critical information.

Biometrics and Mobile App Development

Biometric technologies are used as security measures in Mobile Apps to ensure the users' security and privacy are not compromised. It provides enhanced security as biometrics cannot be replicated or forged. It prevents unauthorized access, reduces the risk of identity theft and fraud and protects sensitive data. Additionally, it can help provide enhanced features and functionality in Apps.

The Use of Biometrics in Mobile App Development

Fingerprint Scanning: As the name suggests, it is a biometric authentication type that uses an individual's unique fingerprints to verify the identity. It adds a layer of security, making it impossible for unauthorized users to access the App or the data. It enhances App security, improves user experience with quick authentication and inspires trust.

Voice Recognition: It helps Apps identify individuals by their unique voice patterns. It's how Siri responds to you when you call out. It provides a secure, hands-free and convenient way to authenticate users. It can also be of great help to users with disabilities. It enhances the overall user experience by giving way to more natural interaction with the App.

Iris Recognition: As iris is unique to every individual, its patterns are used to identify and authenticate the persons thereby making this biometrics technology highly secure. By integrating iris recognition as authentication, users can secure their sensitive data or perform transactions without worry. More and more Apps will surely incline towards it soon enough as it is secure, convenient and reliable.

Facial Recognition: This biometric technology uses the unique facial features of an individual for identification. It is a more convenient, secure, and fast authentication method than PINs and passwords. A quick facial scan and you're in. Also, no one else can breach it. It also helps Apps provide a personalized experience to their users.

Handwriting Recognition: Biometric technologies also allow Apps to offer advanced functionality and features to users. For instance, Handwriting Recognition enables Apps to recognize and interpret handwritten text, converting it into digital text that can be stored, edited or searched. It saves time users spend typing text off of documents and aids those who cannot write or type. Further, it helps copy and translate text written in foreign languages.

BASICALLY,

Biometric Technologies allow users to easily and quickly authenticate themselves without remembering complex passwords. (Let's be honest, passwords with one capital letter, two Numerics, special characters, and whatnot aren't exactly easy to remember.) It also helps Apps provide a frictionless user experience, improving overall user satisfaction and engagement. And, of course, advanced features, including Voice Commands and Handwriting Recognition, add convenience to users' routine lives.
